Zebra Danio Empty
PostSubject: Zebra Danio   Zebra Danio EmptyFri Jan 13, 2012 1:39 pm

My boyfriend just got 4 zebra danio. One of them has found a small nook in the back of the tank and seems to stay there. Every once in a while it comes out to chase other fish away but then goes right back. What could the fish be doing?

you can try to get one or two more, that might entice him to come out and school with the others. You tend to keep fish like that in schools of 3's so 6 might be what you want. Ive never actually seen a danio chase other fishes hmm

This is recent behavior, do you think there could be a possibility of a nest?

He has planted moneywart plants in the tank. Then there is a large rock (not live) and a couple of fake plants. The fish is hiding behind and in one of the moneywart plants.

I have had very aggressive danio in the past. They actively tore up my platy's tails (back when I kept both species). This is NOT common behavior (back home, my danios were very placid as typically described), but it does happen.

Little guy could not be feeling well, how is the water chemistry perimeters?

If there are plants in the tank they could be breeding, but Danios dont care for there young. They breed and move on and the babies tend to hide till they get bigger. You might have some babies in the tank and he is just trying to eat them? I really dont know. I agree with Ashley at this point. It may be something with the water.
(Btw I am glad to head you dont have live rock in that tank, everything would be dead for a freshwater tank)
