Plans for our Social on Oct. 7th

Hi Everyone! Our first social of the year is going to be held next Friday, Oct. 7th in MSC 2707 from 7:30pm - 9:15pm!

We have some tentative plans right now for the meeting, but we want your opinion on what you want to do...

Our plans right now:

-Start with an icebreaker/get to know each other game.
-Have the members running for Vice President and Historian give a short speech.

The icebreaker and speeches should only take about 30 - 40 minutes, sooooooo what do you all want to with the rest of time? Nicholas and I had discussed watching a short aquatic film in the remaining hour. Youtube has a couple of movies on fish, the deep sea, coral reefs, etc. that we could watch. I can also check the library to see if they have something like Blue Planet that we could rent. Is there a specific movie or type of movie that you want to watch?

We don't have to watch a movie, though. If you all would rather play games or whatever, that's cool.

I'm up for a movie or games! Pretty much anything entertaining!

That's where I am. Whatever the club wants to do works for me.

You mentioned games. Are there any aquatic/fish-related games that you can think of? All that I can think of is go-fish.

I think everyone could enjoy a movie but you cant really get to know people or socialize during a movie. I think games would be better in that aspect. While aquatic related games would make sense... go fish was all I could think of too. But I think a game of apples to apples or pictionary or clue, something of that sort would open people up more to socializing. See if anyone is able to bring in games? All Ihave is a deck of cards, but... other people might have more access to games. Usually RA's have tons of games if anyone lives on campus.

I agree that games would allow for more socializing. I've got Apples to Apples. And, I think we might have Pictionary, Clue, and some others as well. I'm going to start a poll for movie vs. games, and see what people think...

Vote in the poll rather you would prefer to watch a movie or play games at the Social on Friday. And, then post either which movie or what games you would like to watch/play.

I think at first, we should stick with things that get us talking. This way new members can get to know everyone and we can get comfortable. Later in the semester I think would be great for movies.. especially towards finals when all we want to do is let our brains melt over some hot cocoa.. lol

So...not making any promises, but what do you all think of a ghetto Samantha-created version of aquarium/fish Pictionary? Yay, or nay??

Well, I asked MSC to equip the room with whiteboards for pictionary, and I've been working on a list of aquarium/aquatic-related words for the game. Hopefully it will be fun.

Back tracking a little bit to the video portion.. I have a few oceanic documentaries we can watch if we ever need. I also have planet earth but it's on bluray so I.. do not know if usf rents those players out. lol

That's great! I figured we'd do games at this social to get to know each other, and then maybe watch a movie at the next one. I don't think USF rents bluray players, but I can check.

even if not, I have a series calllleeeddd.. blue world I think, and that's dvd. I admittedly bought it for the orca portion so I haven't watched the rest to see if it's good e___e

Sounds good. I'm thinking our next social will probably be a movie night to switch things up.
