refugium problem Empty

Hi guys, I just started a new DIY project to add a HOB refugium to my tank. I don't have any additional space under the tank and just wanted to add so chaeto to improve water treatment naturally.

I'm having problems with drainage not being able to keep up with the water being pumped in (I'm using a MJ 600 pump inside the tank). I tried adding an additional drainage overflow with 1in PVC pipes (see pics) but can't get it to work with the system.

If anyone has a local system similar to this, ideas, or wants to take a peak, please let me know. I would like to get the new natural filtration system going!

My suggestion would be to place a ball valve in the intake to lower the amount of water coming in. The refugium looks good!
