40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater Empty
PostSubject: 40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater   40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater EmptyFri Jul 22, 2011 12:41 am

I finally found the pictures I was looking for. This is the progress of my 40 gallon saltwater tank. It's called a Breeder tank, meaning it's shorter but wider than others, though I dont (intentionally) breed anything. I hope I get this picture thing to actually work...

This is my original setup after I got my damsels in. That's Scott, my Azure damsel on the left, and Zazu, my Yellow Tail damsel on the right.

This is my snail Bob the BoulderSnail, he's a mexican turbo snail, and he's an EXCELLENT cleaner Smile

This is a little Tree Coral my friend gave me because hers kept shedding branching and making new ones all over her tank.

My damsels were being territorially aggressive and beating each other up, so I had a divider in the tank for 2 weeks but later tried to make a Rock Wall to act as a natural barrier (it didnt keep them apart, but being isolated for 2 weeks seemed to teach them a lesson. They play nicely now Smile )

Then I introduced my two emerald crabs. This is Oz, when he first got put in.

And last, but not least, this little mushroom polyp my friend gave me when she decided to switch to freshwater.

Since then, I've rearranged the rocks quite a bit. I'll get an updated picture on here once I get a decent one. The ones I've taken over the past few days are blurry and/or tilted cause I suck at photography Sad

So, that's that for now.

Umm... a blue one and an actinic white one? lol, I always go in clueless carrying my burnt out bulb and the store figures out what I need. "I have this.... and I need a new one" ashamed I have two other light fixtures I sometimes add, each with a blue and a white, but not for right now.

So I was cleaning my tank today and I actually thought to take a picture of it after it settled.

40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater 100_1111

This is how it has been rearranged for the past few months, but once I get some money in and get some more toys, I'm going to redo the rockwork.

Meanwhile, I also attacked some more bristle worms today. I didn't get very many, but I took a picture anyway because I was proud of myself. These worms were collected simply by picking up the 3 little rocks/corals in the front and watching all the worms scatter. All I had to do was suck them up with my turkey baster! Ha. Too bad I can't do that with the larger rocks. Once I get CoralRx Im going to try and do the main-infected rocks and then re-do the rockwork when Im done.

So that's it for now...

I got a UV sterilizer recently so once I get paid, Im going to buy a bulb and some other things and maybe get like a real thing going here. Haha. I'll try to remember to update.

Thanks! Honestly, coraline is the one thing I can get to grow no matter what. Im not sure what that means in terms of my chemistry... Maybe I shouldn't start dosing calcium??? This picture was taken after I had just scraped a bunch off the back and side. You can still see it on the wall behind my intake and if you look through the little arches to the backwall. For some reason it doesn't like my newish rocks as much and still prefers the wall.

Probably wouldn't hurt to dose calcium, but the coraline means that your calcium is in the right target area. Wink

Not that I can tell. He seems to have tucked himself in/around the same rock my Emerald Crab is so fond of. It's a good rock. Anyway, he mainly stays above the sand at least 3 inches, so I don't know if he's found any yet. Im hoping he'll get hungry and venture down to the sand. I know he's seen them before, but maybe he's just situating himself still.

So this is the shrimp (my friend said I cant name him until I know he eats worms/wont die)

And this is the Ricordea
40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater 100_1116

And I got this shot of my Sun Coral finally, so I'll just add that on. I wish he'd come out more.

PostSubject: Re: 40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater   40 Gallon Breeder Tank - Saltwater EmptyFri Jan 27, 2012 9:44 pm

This is a bandwagon that I HATE to jump on... but my fish just died and I don't know why. cry

I did my waterchange as usual, and both fish acted normal before, during and after. But about an hour or two after, Zazu looked like he was breathing heavily. Thinking that there might not be enough oxygen in the tank, I put in a bubbler/aerator thing. Within the hour he died. I haven't seen Scott since the water change. Hopefully that means he's hiding and still alive...

There has to be something wrong in my tank. My emerald crab died, a few days later my Turbo Snail died, Within the past week my Sun Coral has shown drastic decline and even my tree coral (which withstands anything) is looking poor. And now my Damsel Sad

WTF what's going ooooonnnnn????????

Scott looks fine. Breathing normally at least. He's hiding a lot, but I think he is scared of the bubbler. And probably lonely Sad

Glad to hear that Scott is okay. That's terrible about Zazu, though! Sad I don't know what to tell you, Ashley. If your water parameters are all checking out fine, it doesn't make any sense. Nicholas just had them same thing happen, though... don\'t know

I actually bought a Copper test kit and tested it the week before. It came up as 0, which is good except now I have no idea.

Scott's still doing fine, and my tree is looking better. I think Im going to go somewhere this week and pickup some astrea snails and a fish.

Anybody got any know-how on Neon Basslets? I really want a Sunrise Basslet, but I've never seen one in stores...
