very cool.
Do reef need diversity to foster lifel? it seems as though this may be successful, but will result in homogeneous reef systems.

Corals reproduce both asexually and sexually. So, yes and no. This method replicates the asexual budding and fragmentation reproduction of corals, but sexual reproduction is important too in order to mix up the gene pool.

Yep there needs to be diversity but they will naturally diversify. What he's doing is just taking natures natural asexual method and giving it a boost to compensate for their current endangered state. Think about if say a wave broke a colony, the result would be frags everywhere! so this is kind of just replicating that.. in a more controlled manner..

probably not the best idea longterm but we've got to get them off the ground.

Elkhorn have lost 90% population in 15 years. Aint good lol

I wish I could get paid to work at a place like that. Most places I've looked into are volunteer based. It would be cool to volunteer there too, but right now I need to pay rent lol
