PostSubject: Two day tang disease   Fri May 11, 2012 6:55 pm

As a few of you may know, i've lost all of my tangs recently. After losing 4 in the past month or so i've noticed a trend in the deaths.

here's the specs/symtpoms

all the tangs orginiated from different tanks
it is not the food and i've tried a few diff foods. (I added a tang that was straight from the wholesaler, he caught the disease and was dead in three days)
it is not ich. i've got a multitude of pics to prove this lol

Seems to only be affecting my tangs. No other fish have died this sort of death.

Symptoms occur for one to two days before death.
No previous signs of discomfort/etc

symptoms include:

staying in one area of the tank and not moving much
visiting the cleaner shrimp a bunch even though the cleaner can't find anything on them
loss of apetite

The tangs were all in near-perfect health prior to the two-day disease. Eating fine. Swimming fine, etc. I even took a bunch of pics of my naso the day before he got the disease because i thought he looked especially vibrant that day.

Any ideas?

Sorry, Eric. I'm stumped. don\'t know That's terrible, though. Sad

Perhaps some kind of internal parasite? Have you tried quarantining any of them with copper or feeding them food with vitamin c?

No, havent' tried that Sad

it was very hard to tell what was killing them until the last two. it just seemed coincidental so I wasnt thinking of treating them. Sad

I've heard that vitamin c can do wonders. I've read articles/posts where people added vitamin c to fish food, and it boosted the fish's immune system enough for the fish to fight off the disease.

I hope you can figure out what it is... Neutral

Yeah best of luck Eric. I'd check out possible internal parasites and see what comes up. Maybe without any tangs to host for a bit they would die off. But I find it hard to believe there would be a species specific parasite effecting your tank.

@nick

that's what I was confused by! no other fish have died with the exception of a few chromis that were recent additions. they were just being chromis and dieing from whatever it is chromis seem to always die from though lol

Yeah lol. I wish I could be more helpful. Maybe just leave it without a tang for a few more weeks and then add one and see how it goes.

Good to hear. Smile

I didn't realize you were still in Colorado. Nicholas and I just got back from St. Croix. diving We both came home to a couple of frags face down in the sand, but overall everything looks okay.
