List of Plants that EXCEL doesn't get along with Empty
PostSubject: List of Plants that EXCEL doesn't get along with   List of Plants that EXCEL doesn't get along with EmptyWed Feb 06, 2013 8:57 pm

Hey everyone!

Well after doing a small treatment to some weeping moss that I just got in that had some hair algae and it not taking too kindly to that (I am not happy LOL )

Excel Friendly:
  • Amazon Sword
  • Xmas moss
  • Java Fern
  • Flame moss (in light amounts, dosed directly in tank with filters off does ok due to ability to dissapate a bit more)
  • Java moss (see above)

Not so Excel Friendly:
  • Junge Vals
  • Corkscrew Vals
  • Dwarf Sag
  • Weeping moss
  • Willow Moss

This is the starting list, I know there's more but I can't remember the names for them off the top of my mind. Those where I say that they don't handle the excel don't handle it well at algae treatment levels (3-4x normal dose spot treated for 5 minutes), however those in italics do alright with the normal or less than normal doseage for carbon supplement.

If you have any that you know that we can add to the list that would be awesome. My hope is that someone in the future can check this thread before attempting to attack algae or using excel to add carbon to in their tanks.

I just hope it isn't from plant melting experiences...speaking of which I need to edit the list already because I remember another one that I melted completely mad

The "edit" feature is disabled after a 10 minute window. So either just post it separately, or you can pm/post it and I can go in and modify the original post. Up to you...

Hmm I've been using excel for a few weeks now and my Dwarf Sag seems ok. I've been using small amounts though. I wonder if I should stop.

Dan its ok if you light dose or dose regularly I've found just make sure you are dosing as much as it says on the bottle. The excel algae treatment where you apply excel directly to the affected areas is where it doesn't like it and it melts.

I small amounts the excel is designed to give a carbon boost when a co2 system isn't available. I use it in my two ten gallons and my moss project just keep doing the dose you are and watch your plants if they start showing signs of stress cut the dose back a bit and trim affected plants.

I don't know if I posted the pics where I melted my Jungle Vals in my 55 I freaked and did a trim and now they're going nuts even after I mowed them down

One plant that absolutely HATES excel even in super small doses is Bamboo Sparks

If we can add that above that would be great Smile
