| So, I thought that there should be a thread for posting about your non-aquatic pets. You've probably seen several pics of my family's dog already on this forum; she loves to help out with the aquariums. We own a bichon-chihuahua mix, and her name is Toffee. This October, Toffee will be 4 years old; she still acts like a puppy, though. Some pics of my pup... Toffee at the pet store in my lap: She loves going for rides in the car: Toffee after a bath: Toffee in my bed: | |

| I have 2 cats. They're at my mom's place since I cant have them here, but I visit every few weeks! This is Miko. She has more of a "play with me!" attitude She also likes to test if she can lay on EVERYTHING you're working on at once while you go out for a snack. Miko's twin sister is named Meesha. You can tell them apart because Meesha has a white nose, and she's also really fat. She doesnt usually liked to be touched, and HATES being picked up (of course, I do that anyway) She always loved watching my fish too (This is an old setup) (No, Im not obese with a huge appitite. I used to be a girl scout) | |

| I LOVE your cats!! Toffee tries to lay all over my school work as well! And, Toffee loves the fish. Except that she doesn't sit sweetly and watch the fish like Meesha; Toffee tries to eat them through the glass... | |

Thanks! And, you should definitely post some pics of your parrots. Nicholas and I used to have a cockatiel. He hated me, though...

| Alright, my kids! (or as bird people call them, "fids".. feathered kids) The first two are both my smallest, and my oldest and middle. Both are cockatiels. Sam a normal gray-phase, and is the balding fellow in the front. He is estimated at age 20 this year, and he shows it! He is perpetually raggy looking these days, but has always remained fiercely vigilant over me to ensure nobody gets pet unless HE is getting petted, too. Indiana is in the rear. Indi, who carries a trait for pearl-phase, is about 11-13 years old. He is convinced Sam should love him forever and be his BFF. Sam doesn't agree, and hasn't since 2002, when I received Indi as a rehomed bird. Despite it, Indi is a pretty good boy. He prefers the company of other birds, but he likes playing games with people and getting his head patted. (pic from last week or so) My youngest and LARGEST fid is Roy. Roy was born in 2003, and I have it hatch records (unlike the tiels). Roy is a blue and gold macaw, but he'll have you believe he's a puppy. Before I had Roy, he was very friendly and liked to play with people. Unfortunately, people let their dogs leap on his cage and smacked his enclosure when he would scream, so he has since become very wary of strangers. Under my watch he has opened up, but still does not like to be handled (much less touched!!!!) by anyone outside of myself, or my husband. And even my husband can barely pet him. He will, however, happily sing and dance with you if he is out and will accept sacrificial pistachios as a peace offering. He is very bonded to me, and we have a pretty great time together. Here he is being a total dancing machine on my leg.. (pic from 2010.. my recent ones are all of the inside of his mouth ) | |

| But wait.. THERE'S MORE Actually, these do NOT live with me!! LOL! BUT they are bonded. These birds reside at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores, where I was employed for.. forever. These are critters I worked closely with and, whenever I visit, RUSH to my feet when I walk into their aviary. If it's been too long since my last visit however, I get bitten and my legs are beaten with angry wings!!! But they still sit next to me and voice their disapproval, versus walking away and avoiding me, so I still feel somewhat loved.. And I dream about them ALL the time The first is PEEPS. Peeps (but really PEEPS or PEEPEEPS or PEEEEEPERRRRS because you have to yell it, LOL) is an American Oystercatcher. Isn't he handsome? He knows it. Dig that crazy beak? He can wallop open a shellfish in under 20 seconds using his face! Peeps was notorious for knocking over my coffee and beating the cup to death. And THIS ball of cute is Jackson. Jackson is a royal tern; most of our interns call him "Your Highness"... lol. As you can see, he behaves very well for me! His favorite past time was walking off with my car keys.. this is why we can't have nice things He also used to grab my finger and walk backwards and "drag" me across his pen. we never really got anywhere, but he seemed so happy I had to oblige | |

| Peeps is very regal. What a beak?! And, as for Jackson, he gives Puss in Boots some competition! Just look at those eyes! | |

| Peeps is a god among mortals... in his head. LOL. He is VERY loud and likes to prance and stomp. He also really likes to talk over people.. during tours he would PEEPEEPEEPEEP the entire time I was talking and when I stopped to glare at him, he did the same back. AUGH! Too cute | |

| Hey Ashley, since you're kind of a bird expert, we have a question for you... We found a hummingbird with a broken/dislocated wing a few weeks ago. We've been keeping him at home, giving him nectar, water, and whatever he finds on the flowers that we bring him. His wing has gotten better, but he still can't fly. Any suggestions? Do you know a place where we can take him for help? Thanks! | |

| Yes, he can be taken to the emergency clinic on Busch for transport to the suncoast seabird sanctuary (where I worked). You can call 727-391-6211 to see if a bird transporter is in the area too (they are volunteers). More importantly... it it also quite illegal for you to have that bird in your house by statute of the migratory bird act, so get him to a rehab clinic!! | |

| Thanks, Ashley! Wow, illegal...didn't know that. I'll talk to my parents about it later, and we'll see if the clinic will take him. | |

| our volunteer John works out of Tampa, he may be able to get him to SSS directly, but I am not sure! Sometimes he goes to Plant City. The rescue line will help in any case.. keep it handy in case you ever find a bird, or you can call me for injured bird transport! I can't tell you how many pelicans I have had to catch. Since your hummer is stable for now, he'll be ok until the vet gets him. Good luck! | |

| My parents took Mitch to the clinic this afternoon, and they said they'd take him to the sanctuary. Cute lil' guy...gonna miss him. Hopefully they can help him, though. Thanks again, Ashley! | |

Yep Australian Cattle Dogs. My favorite ever, they are both wicked smart, especially Madison. Dora (the bull terrier) is a lovable doofiss . And Stella is a French Bulldog. She is cute in the way a baby pig is cute

| is dora prone to hucklebudding? (where she spins in circles like a tornado and zips around the house)? it's apparently a trait of their breed.. but i've only seen a few that do it! | |
