Aquarist Club at USF November Meeting!

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 15th at 5pm in ADM 252 (enter through ADM 241). Our guest speaker at the meeting will be Dr. Bill Baker. Dr. Baker is a Professor of Chemistry here at USF, as well as the Director of the Center for Drug Design and the Center for Drug Discovery and Innovation. While Dr. Baker spends half of his time here in Tampa, he also ventures down to Antarctica, living down there for months at a time. In Antarctica, Dr. Baker and his colleagues and students scuba dive under the ice, collecting sponges, corals, and other creatures that they bring back to their lab and analyze. Currently, Dr. Baker is researching cures for diseases that come from these living organisms collected from the seas of Antarctica.



I have personally attended one of Dr. Bakers talks, and I promise that this is one that you do not want to miss! Dr. Baker gives great talks (he was the guest speaker at USF's "Last Lecture"), and his research is fascinating!!

We have just become part of Gray's College Bookstore Student Organization Rebate program. I will be posting info about this on the forum. However, I wanted to post a "teaser" here because at our November Meeting a representative from Gray's will be coming to give a quick talk about the program and how it is a great opportunity for our club to make some extra cash. Gray's has also promised some free giveaways! Be there or be square!!

You would be surprised at all the things he has done. At his station in Antarctica, they have a ritual where the researchers jump into the ocean while wearing only underwear when a boat leaves. He is truly an interesting guy. He delivered a speech to my class for the second time yesterday. Both of his speeches were thoroughly entertaining.

Both of his presentations were delivered to my honors 'Discovery' class. The class only meets once a week, and there is a presenter at every meeting, but professor Baker has probably been my favorite. Yesterday, he presented the same talk that he did during the last lecture series. His first presentation was an introduction to his research. I have no idea what he will be talking about with the club, but I am 100% positive that he will show you pictures of penguins if he has a projector.

Very cool! I was in Discovery back in the day. That's how I know Dr. Baker.

Btw, if you have not picked up your Aquarist Club at USF t-shirts, I will have them with me at the meeting this evening.

The class is interesting sometimes. I love hearing from the different professors.

I didn't know anything about shirts actually. That's cool . Sadly, I probably won't be there today since I don't really have transportation, and I just had a paper to write assigned out of nowhere .

If you have any questions on the shirts feel free to ask us at the raffle on Friday night!

I enjoyed the class. You missed a good meeting. You should definitely try to come to the social/raffle on Friday! As far as shirts go, while you missed the group order, you can place an individual order for shirts (or other merchandise) at your own convenience.
