Did the Kraken really exist? Yahoo! thinks so.

I'm not entirely unconvinced there couldn't be one or two of these (that is, squid of kraken-proportion) out there today. There are species of dwarf and beaked whales that we only see once every 10+ years, and they have to come to the surface regularly for air. I'm sure there are LOTS of deep-sea things we may never recover!

Regardless, a great article Smile

That's what makes the ocean so cool! And a little scary sometimes. Is it sad that I am more afraid of giant squid than I am of sharks?

NO! And because your fears are very valid! Squid are known to rush divers and pull their masks off!! Humboldt squid migrations in California are usually frequented by new divers. Why? The old divers know to keep away. They are only 3-6 feet long, but they know how to yank your oxygen out of your mouth!

Nevermind the aggression a giant squid could bring.. Smile

Sharks don't make me too nervous. I have been in the water with a few species now with no ill effects. Not that I'd go LOOKING for a bull shark.. but you know.. diving
